Tacoma is a city in Washington located 31 miles southwest of Seattle, 58 miles northwest of Mount Rainier National Park, and 31 miles northeast of Olympia.
Tacoma is popularly known in Washington and in the U.S. at large for its richness in art and history museums. It was awarded as the most walkable city in 2006. It is the third largest city in Washington with an area of land of 49.72 sq mi (128.77 km2). According to the 2010 census, this city is a home to a population of 198,397.
Following its adoption as the western terminus of the northern Pacific Railroad in 1873, Tacoma was incorporated in the year 1875. This city derived its name from the Mount Rainer known as Tacoma. It is locally nicknamed ‘The City of Destiny’ because it was chosen to serve as the western terminus of the Northern Pacific Railroad.
