Local Gold and Silver Dealers in San Diego, CA

San Diego covers an area of around 372 square miles and with an estimated population of 1.4 million is the second largest city in California, after Los Angeles. Lying on California’s Pacific coast, San Diego is one of California’s top destinations for tourists, who are attracted by the more than 50 miles of sun-soaked coastline and beaches. Its location close to the planet’s biggest ocean makes it ideal for the world’s largest naval base, which it is.

In San Diego, you will find the largest concentration of naval military assets anywhere in the world. It is home to the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, the Naval Base Coronado, the Naval Base Point Loma, the U.S. Coast Guard Station San Diego and, of course, the Naval Base San Diego.

The Naval Base San Diego is the principal base of the U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet. Providing anchorage to over 50 ships, the base has 13 piers that stretch over 977 acres of land and 326 acres of water. The Naval Base San Diego is larger than many cities; over 20,000 military personnel and 6,000 civilians are housed or work there.

Sales Tax on Gold and Silver in San Diego

Sales taxes in San Diego are zero, but you will still have to pay 8% on purchases: state tax of 7.5% plus a 0.5% county tax. Coins used as a medium of exchange won’t be taxed, even though the exchange value may not be on par with the face value.

For example, the value given for a dollar coin could be just 90 cents in a purchase transaction. However, if the transaction in coins is an investment or an acquisition of collector’s items, it will be taxed. In general, sales of gold and silver bullion are taxed. However, bulk sales of monetized bullion, non-monetized gold or silver bullion and numismatic coins are exempt from taxes, provided the total market value sold in a single transaction is $1,500 or more.
