Local Gold and Silver Dealers in Denver, CO

The city of Denver is the capital of the U.S. state of Colorado. It is also the municipality with the most residents in the state. Its 704,621 inhabitants in 2017 made it the 19th most populous city in America. Denver carries the tag of Mile High City. The city lies exactly one mile (5280 feet) above sea level.

Development of the city dates back to the 19th century and the time of Pike’s Peak Gold Rush. The Pike's Peak Gold Rush, also known as the Colorado Gold Rush, was the increase activity in gold mining the Pike's Peak Country of western Kansas Territory and southwestern Nebraska Territory, which started in 1858 and lasted until 1861, when the Territory of Colorado was created.

In 1858, prospectors established a settlement on the banks of the South Platte River and called it Montana City. Together, with settlements close by, the town was renamed Denver City in honor of the Kansas Territorial Governor, James W. Denver.

The city was mostly populated by miners and their families and the merchants who came to provide supplies. In its early days, it was the prototypical frontier town with an economy based on servicing local miners with gambling, saloons, livestock and goods trading.

Sales Tax on Gold and Silver in Denver

In Colorado, numismatic items, such as paper money, tokens, checks, and wampum, may be subject to sales tax. Additionally, purchases and sales of jewelry and commemoratives are taxable.

Retail sales of coins and precious metal bullion are, however, exempt from sales tax. And so too are precious metal bullion and coins that are or were at one time used as currency or medium of exchange in the United States or a foreign country (such as quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies) are exempt. The current state sales tax rate is 2.9%. County, city and special taxes may add another 8.3%.
