Local Gold and Silver Dealers in Billings, MT

Billings, situated in the south-central portion of Montana, is the largest city in the state of Montana, with an estimated population, in 2017, of 109,642. It is the only city in sparsely populated Montana with over 100,000 residents. The city, the fastest growing population-wise in the state, is the seat of government of Yellowstone County.

Its economic development has also proceeded at a rapid pace, due in part to the discovery of hydrocarbons at the Bakken Formation, some estimate of which suggest the fields could yield over 24 billion barrels of oil in the coming years. In addition, economic growth has been bolstered by the Heath shale oil discovery just north of Billings.

Billings has taken its name from Frederick H. Billings, who ran the Northern Pacific Railroad. The Railroad played an important role in the city’s early development; the city was founded in 1882 as a stop on the line.

Its nickname of "Magic City" is said to have been bestowed because of its historically rapid development. Today, the city is known as a destination for conventions, concerts, sporting events, and rallies.
